Maxthon sends info about you to China

Maxthon browser, a Chinese browser available for Windows, OS X, and Linux (and as Maxthon Mobile for WP8, iOS, and Android), has been caught sending detailed information from it users, such as browsing history and even system installed applications to the China based company that develops the software.

Security researchers from the Polish firm Exatel discovers that the web browser sends ZIP files to a server in China. These ZIP files contain information about the system including the processor, memory, ad blocker status, set homepage, browser history including web searches, and a list of installed applications on the system including their version number. And even though the browser has an opt-in setting for users to choose to send specific information as part of the ‘User Experience Program’, the ZIP files are sent to the company whether the you have the feature disabled or not. – MSPoweruser
